UK shares fall 0.25% despite more market gainers

On Monday, UK equities ended the day lower, with FTSE 100 plunging 0.25% at the close in London as oil & gas producers, aerospace & defence, and oil equipment services & distribution sector stocks dragged the index.

The worst performers on the index were Tui AG which fell 17.20 points or 5.56% to settle the session at 292.20, Carnival PLC which slumped 51.3 points or 4.93% to trade at 990.2, and Rolls-Royce Holdings shedding 28.35 points or 12.7% to late trade at 194.85.

On the other hand, the best performers on the FTSE were DS Smith PLC which surged 8.60 points or 2.82% to close the day at 313.80, Ocado Group PLC rising 61.00 points or 2.56% to late trade at 2443, and Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust which slumped 32.00 points or 3.12% to end the day at 1056.

Overall, the winning shares outnumbered the losing stocks by 1225 to 991. Futures for the US dollar index rose 0.03%, to trade at 93.090.

Besides, 168 stocks closed the session at London stock exchange.
