Ahead of the slated ban on Tencent’s (Chinese company) messaging app WeChat in the US witnessed a hike in its downloads since Friday, said a report published on Tuesday. However, Washington is adamant about pushing its agenda as usual.
During Friday to Saturday, the app witnessed 54,000 downloads. It was almost 28 times more than it saw during the same days a week before.
The department of commerce in the US circulated a circular to Apple and Google’s parent company Alphabet to ban the installation of WeChat from their play stores as the app posed a threat to their national security. However, in an interesting twist, a US judge halted the proceedings on Sunday. On Monday, the department said that it would challenge the order.
