Canada market gains at the close, S&P_TSX Composite rises 1.20%

On Wednesday, Canada’s leading blue-chip index, S&P/TSX, ended the day 1.20% higher, with clean technology, healthcare, and consumer discretionary sectors dragging the index up at the close in Toronto.

 

The top performers on the index at the end of the session were Sleep Country Canada Holdings which gained 7.53% or 1.48 points to settle the day at 21.13, Lightspeed POS Incorporation which added 6.73% or 2.98 points to late trade at 47.27, and Canopy Growth Corp. which rose 7.98% or 1.520 points to end the day at 20.575. 

 

Similarly, the worst performers on the index were Eldorado Gold Corporation shedding 3.42% or 0.51 points to close the day at 14.40, Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. which declined 3.00% or 0.39 points to trade at 12.61, and Maple Leaf Foods Incorporation which fell 4.89% or 1.29 points to late trade the session at 25.09.

 

Overall, gainers dominated the losers by 717 to 346, with 109 shares trading unchanged at the Toronto Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, CAD/USD and CAD/EUR gained 0.35% and 0.09% to trade at 0.7539 and 0.6407, respectively. 

 

The US Dollar Index Futures traded at 93.680 after falling 0.07%.
