UK businesses continue to struggle among the corona crisis. The Boots is the latest firm to announce a massive job cut. In total, the company is planning to shut 48 branches of its optician’s part, keeping 4,000 employees at risk.
Earlier, John Lewis also announced to close eight stores and cutting 1,300 jobs. The Boots’ retail sales fell by nearly 48% over the last three months, as compared to the same time the previous year. Its opticians’ business sales also dropped around 72%.
In total, Boots has 606 optician branches in the UK, and the decision is expected to affect deputy & assistant managers and beauty & customer adviser. The company’s health and beauty products were open as they fall under the “essential” category.
